In the throes

This self-portraits depicts the intense and volatile internal emotional state of the mind perpetrating through to the external layers of the body – the heat building across the forehead, the creases around the eyes, the ambiguity of the mouth, the lump in the throat. The background, split in to cool and hot sides featuring bold mark making, add to the impression of intense volatility.
